About me
I am a disabled and disability artist based in Llanfair Caereinion, Montgomeryshire, Mid-Wales. I have had no formal art training, but instead experiment with ideas and materials and take an instinctive approach. I am an abstract artist and enjoy working in acrylics, oils and watercolour, and also digital photography. I am developing my work in mixed media, using reclaimed and recycled materials. Much of my work explores disability issues. In the current political climate, disabled people are increasingly demonised, and I feel that it is important that disability artists are a voice for disabled people in these troubled times. I also often explore social and environmental issues. I use the artist name Ceridwen Powell to reflect my adopted Welshness, and am inspired by the colours and shapes of the beautiful Montgomeryshire landscape, and Celtic myths and legends.
I am also developing my 3D work in clay, wire and mixed media sculptures.
News
Latest works:
'City Of Delusion' - this piece is about how rampant global capitalism and greed has brought us all to our knees, and how we desperately need a rethink and to change our ways.
'Hiraeth Am Heddwch' - this means 'longing for peace' in Welsh. The piece is about how we have a unique and critical chance to live our lives in a way that is more considerate of each other, other creatures and the planet.
I have been experimenting with digital art - prints available at www.saatchiart.com/CeridwenPowell.
